Tax Break Favors Dirty Fossil Fuel – Corbett Wants $1.675 Billion for Shell Cracker.
To the surprise of everyone but Gov. Corbett, on June 4 a reporter for Capitolwire revealed that the Governor had been working a sweet deal for a Shell Oil ethane cracker plant in Beaver County. Amounting to $1.675 billion over 25 years, the deal would require legislative approval, but it raises a variety of issues. From an environmental viewpoint, why are we funding a dirty fossil fuel use when the state’s solar energy incentives are in danger of elimination. Imagine how many jobs would be created if the wind and solar industries got a similar $1.675 billion deal.
