Wind Power Needs a Fair Chance
Urge your Congressman to support extension of the federal Production Tax Credit for wind energy beyond 2012.
While visiting a wind turbine blade factory in Iowa, on May 24 President Obama called on Congress to renew the Production Tax Credit (PTC) for wind energy. The Sierra Club applauded this move by Obama, pointing out that the PTC helps level the playing field with fossil fuels and is critical for providing the certainty that the wind industry needs to maintain employment for approximately 75,000 US workers. This has become an issue in the Presidential race, with Romney’s opposition to the PTC likely to hurt him in states like Iowa that are benefiting from the lower costs of locally produced wind power. Not surprisingly, conservative PACs are siding with Romney and launching a major campaign to oppose the President’s alternate energy initiatives.
