Redistricting Sets Up Altmire vs Critz for April Primary
The shift in Pennsylvania’s population recorded in the 2010 census has resulted in the elimination of one of the state’s Congressional Districts. The resulting re-drawing of the remaining Districts has put current Members Jason Altmire and Marc Critz in the same Twelfth District for 2012 . Current belief is that both these Blue Dog Dems will battle in the April 24 Primary, in a District that will stretch from the Beaver County border with Ohio to Johnstown in Cambria County. (To check which Congressional District you will be voting in, check HERE.)
In other Districts the small boundary adjustments are only likely to strengthen the incumbencies of Reps. Tim Murphy (R-18) and Mike Doyle (D-14) . Rep. Mike Kelly (R-3) will be responsible for all of Butler County, which includes Cranberry and Westinghouse Nuclear. Rep. Kelly no longer having any part of Allegheny NF means that Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-5) will be solely responsible for any wilderness legislation in the House.
