Environmental Protection Starts at the Ballot Box
The importance of political action to help protect the environment could be no more evident than the election of candidates to Pittsburgh City Council. With strong advocates for environmental protection, over the past few years City Council has passed legislation to protect our green hillsides, control storm water runoff, halt ugly signage, and place a ban on shale gas drilling in the city. To ensure that Council continues to make ‘real green’ progress, the Sierra Club is pleased to endorse the re-election of Darlene Harris (Northside) and Patrick Dowd (Highland Park) to Council, complementing the earlier endorsement of Councilman Bruce Kraus (Southside) and challenger Lucille Prater-Holliday (Homewood).
These are four races where Sierra Club members and friends can have a real and measurable impact. Because the campaigns rely on grassroots support, modest financial contributions payable on the candidate Websites are especially valuable. Perhaps more important is volunteer help; door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, getting out the vote, etc. To help Darlene Harris please contact Michael at treesnrivers[at]yahoo[dot]com and to help Lucille Prater-Holliday contact Randy at further1[at]gmail[dot]com.
