The battle to protect Allegheny County Parks from fracking has intensified. At their September 10 meeting the members of Allegheny County Council heard 24 citizens urged Council members to vote for a three-year hold on any shale gas drilling activity on or below the regional park system. Before an audience of almost sixty, Councilwoman Barbara Daly Danko explained why she introduced her hold-the fracking resolution and it was referred to the Government Reform Committee. A vote by full Council is expected in the near future. County Executive Rich Fitzgerald has promised to veto any such resolution, so concerned citizens need to call on their member of Council to support the Councilwoman Danko’s resolution. Locate your County District and then find your member’s email address by clicking on their photo in the members directory.
