Enjoy, Explore, and Protect the Planet Sierra Club Allegheny Group, Pennsylvania Chapter

Global Warming Action Team - Overview

The Global Warming Action Team’s overarching goal is to reduce CO2 emissions within the borders of the Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club. We will play a significant role in helping Southwestern Pennsylvania achieve a 2% a year reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. We will educate the residents of Southwestern Pennsylvania concerning global warming and the potential devastation it will cause, if certain preventive steps are not taken. Southwestern Pennsylvania is a key geographical area in the world wide fight against global warming due to the large number of coal mines and coal fired power plants located in the area. Coal burning is a large contributor to the overall amount of global greenhouse gas emissions.

The Allegheny Group’s membership will be alerted to the existence of the website and the specific global warming section using various methods. Volunteers will be actively sought to assist in a variety of activities (e.g., signing of petitions, rallies, writing letters to the editor, phone banking) designed to influence individual behavior and actions of decision makers in achieving our goal.
