Attorney Joe Osborne of the Group Against Smog and Pollution in Pittsburgh will discuss the problem of air pollution associated with Marcellus Shale gas drilling operations, and Pam Judy will talk about how she has been personally affected by shale gas drilling.

Grappling With Nuclear Power

PittEnvironment will hold a town hall forum to explore and discuss the role of nuclear energy in the past, present, and future through the lens of sustainability.

The event will consist of a panel discussion with some brief presentations, a question and answer session, and an open floor for the audience to ask questions, make comments, and express opinions on nuclear energy, particularly after the recent Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster this past March.

Panelists include:

  • Dr. Patricia DeMarco, Director of the Rachel Carson Institute in Pittsburgh
  • Mr. Michael Mariotte, Executive Director of the Nuclear Information and Resource Service (NIRS) in Washington, D.C.
  • Professor Larry Foulke, Ph.D., Nuclear Engineering Certificate Program at University of Pittsburgh, and
  • Dr. Gregory Reed, Director of the University Of Pittsburgh Power and Energy Initiative.
