Things YOU can do

Ways to reduce CO2 emissions in Southwestern Pennsylvania

Here are some ideas:

  • Conserve water.
  • Buy green products, such as cleaning products
  • Help school board reduce diesel emissions by 90%- diesel particle fibers, closed crankshaft vents, or new buses.
  • Unplug your charged phone or other electrical items when not in use.
  • Carpool, take the bus, walk, or ride a bike. Buy a Prius, electric car, or a car with good miles per gallon.
  • Don’t keep car on while just waiting.
  • Recycle and reuse things. All plastic 1-5 in the city can be recycled, bottles, cans, paper, etc. (check your suburb’s requirements if not in city)
  • Don’t waste food, napkins, paper, paper towels, etc.
  • Promote green jobs
  • Use compact fluorescent lightbulbs.
  • Switch to solar or wind power.
  • Keep your thermostat at a reasonable temperature– 68F in winter for heat and 78F in summer for air conditioning.
  • Turn lights off when not in the room
  • Keep track of legislation and do petitions for politicians.
  • Have others contact politicians- phone calls
  • Get postcards signed
  • Go to press conferences
  • Educate people about global warming
  • If water heater is full, you will use less hot water.
  • Wait until you have a full load of wash so that you won’t waste water
  • Get a “green energy supplier”
  • Go shopping once weekly
  • Carpool
